Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) respond to treat the sick and injured within their communities. People's lives often depend on the quick reaction, confident decision making, and competent care provided by these healthcare professionals. EMTs respond to emergency calls, perform medical services and transport patients to medical facilities. As an EMT, you will work with law enforcement, fire/rescue departments, as well as other healthcare providers under all types of conditions.

An EMT treats patients at the scene of an incident and while taking patients by ambulance to the hospital. An EMT has the skills to assess a patient's condition and to manage respiratory, cardiac, and trauma emergencies

Duties and Responsibilities of EMTs include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to 911 calls for emergency medical assistance, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Assess a patient's condition and determine a course of treatment
  • Provide first-aid treatment or life saving care to sick or injured patient
  • Transport patients safely in an ambulance to a definitive care facility
  • Report your clinical findings and treatments for continued medical care
